All over the world stray animals cannot even find food. We have visited several regions in southern Morocco and the neglect of these creatures of God is sad to see. Skinny, thirsty, hungry and lonely dogs and cats roam in search of love and compassion.
Sometimes the situation is so difficult that the female dog has to nurse her little ones after she hasn’t eaten for several days. In the dirtiest and most desert areas we met several families abandoned by everyone.
At Dar AL Khair taking care of animals is also an important mission that should affect us all. The Prophet strongly recommended caring for animals in exchange for being rewarded with Paradise.
The hadith of the one who rescued the panting dog also highlights that Allah bestows a reward, forgives sins and gives thanks to the one who saves an animal. According to Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“While a man was walking on a road, he felt a great thirst.
He then found a well, went down to it and drank the water from the well.
Going back up, he saw a dog panting and licking the damp earth, he was so thirsty.
The man said to himself, “This dog suffers from thirst as much as I suffered from it myself.”
He went back down into the well, filled his shoe, held it with his teeth and climbed back up.
He gave it to the dog and Allah praised his deed and forgave his sins.
They said, “O Messenger of Allah! Do we have a reward for our good deeds towards animals?”
He says, “(For him who does good) to every living creature there is a reward.”
